Rainforest Activities at Lookout Inn Lodge - Costa Rica

Corcovado National Park TourOur Lookout Inn Lodge is located on the Osa Peninsula, in the Southern part of Costa Rica. This area is one of the most bio-diverse areas in the world, and has been described as “The most biologically intense place on Earth” by National Geographic.

There is no doubt that we have a lot to do and see out here – especially if you love nature, wildlife, national parks, hiking, taking photos, and just plainly enjoy being outside.
Please view our below list of activities, and let us know during your reservation process if you’re interested in any of these. Some activities, like Corcovado hikes, have to be arranged in advance.

The highlight of our Peninsula is the Corcovado National Park. The park is around 42,000 hectares large, and hosts around 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity. The biodiversity here includes 400 species of birds, 140 species of mammals, 116 species of amphibians and reptiles, over 500 species of trees, and more than 6,000 species of insects.

There are several ways that you can see the park!

This is by far our most popular tour, with around 99% of our guests doing this activity during their stay with us. We have our own certified guides on site, or find you a guide, to take you into the park. You cannot hike into the park without a reservation / park passes and a certified guide. There is a $25.00 per person NON REFUNDABLE fee for park passes and once purchased you can´t change the dates either. (Park Rules)

ALL Day Hikes have to be arranged in ADVANCE, so please let us know before your arrival that you’d like to do a hike. Usually we can arrange a day hike around 2 days before you’d like to do the hike, but we need advanced notice to organize your permits etc for you.

Corcovado National Park Tour

Hiking around the property of Lookout Inn Lodge you can see all the wildlife that also occurs in the park – since we’re located right next to it. Additionally, we have waterfalls, rivers, lagoons, and beautiful rainforest for your enjoyment.

We offer guided tours around our own property, on several marked trails. You may also go on your own hike, without a guide. All our trails are marked and we have maps to show you how to get around.

However, we do recommend that you take a guided hike, since you’ll see many more animals that are hidden all around the rainforest.

These are the different hikes we offer:

Stairway to HeavenThis hiking trail will take you on a big loop, first up our stairway to heaven, right behind our lodge. The stairway goes up high onto our little hill, and then leads you on a path down the hill. Pumas, sloths, Tapir, and other amazing creatures have been spotted right on this trail !! You should go and check it out during your stay with us.

You can do this hike in around 3 hours. Depending how many photos you take and how slow you are.

Costs $30 per person with guide
- see video

Waterfall HikeThis hike will take you to our waterfalls and the nearby carate river.

This is a refreshing tour where you can jump in the water at the end to cool down!

Costs $30 per person with guide.

Squirrel MonkeyThis tour takes around a couple of hours.

From $30 per person with guide.

Horseback RidingA horseback riding trip can be arranged at any time and you’ll ride along our beautiful beach and along some trails.

Our Lagoon is around a 15 minutes walk from our Lodge and is a beautiful place to watch wildlife and birds.

Around and in the lagoon you can see a lot of water birds, which rely on catching their prey from still waters. You can also see crocodiles, caimans, and other wildlife.

The lagoon is a beautiful and a biodiverse spot and is easy to access from our lodge. The best way to explore the lagoon is via kayak or canoe.. both available for rental.

Canoeing at Lookout Inn Lodge

There are many other water-based and rainforest activities to consider. At our hidden eco lodge, Lookout Inn Lodge has something for you to do from sun up to sun down—or you can do nothing all day except relax. That's OK with us; it's your holiday. Do as you wish. For those of you who would rather sit by a pool, read, take in some sun and take a cool dip—we have a fresh water pool in our garden area. Have questions about Lookout Inn Lodge?
