Hi Terry!

Back in the regular rat race of NYC and not at Osa Peninsula - Lookout Inn.…. You guys are the mostess of the hostess of any Inns I’ve ever been too!!! Your place is so crazy! This place is just so beautiful and too crazy wonderful that my senses are still on overdrive!!!! Never been so relaxed in the company of the Lookout guests mixed in with the magnitude of wildlife and the gorgeous landscape that is totally too good to be true! Honestly, you have the best kept secret out there and I’m so thankful that my mother and I were able to come across your special Inn.

All the best to you and Katya, Jeff and the rest of your staff and I hope to drop in again, especially next year’s vacation with my husband for our 20th wedding anniversary. I definitely will be in touch to make arrangements for our trip down to Carate.

Thanks ever so much of your wonderful hospitality and taking care of my Mother.

Best regards,

Katherine

P.S. Katya that Nutriskin - pepino extract is amazing for sunburnt skin. Just picked up a couple of jars!

Hola Terry and Katya and staff: Thanks for thinking of us Terry.

Back here in Olympia, Washington where the temps are 40 at night and 50 in the day. Not exactly the same as the beautiful Lookout Inn. Lucia plays her jungle sound cd's to duplicate the bird sounds we heard every morning as we woke up.

We have shown everybody our pictures and where you are located on the map. We truly enjoyed ourselves. You all run a nice place and make people feel comfortable. I gorged on meat right when I got back but have been bringing myself back down with a bac-o-bits regimen.

Sometimes when I am stuck in traffic I think of the Osa Penisula and I think "What the "?%*(#$^" am I doing here". But that's our reality and it will make returning all that much better. Glad you are busy and all the best to Jeff and Jonathon the dog's and Polly. Your Friends Roy T. Smith and Lucia Herger

Dear Terry and Katya

By far, the days we spent at the LookOut Inn are our favorites of the three weeks in Costa Rica. You can believe that we will recommend to everyone to stay with you who mentions that they are going to Costa Rica. AND if one of my three kids ever decides to get married, I will recommend they honeymoon with you! THe kind friendship that you all extended to us and the special treatment you bestowed on us in light of the anniversary have imprinted themselves in our memories.

The drive back to Domincal took about 3-3 1/2 hours. The first hour included a detour to the Rainforest Festival site where we talked with the director who gave us some posters for our class rooms so we in turn can raise the awareness of students in Northern California about the need to protect and restore the rainforest. The rest of the trip was done in pouring down tropical rain. Crazy for driving. Peter was a stud! WE did stay at the Rio Linda Inn and mentioned you to everyone who all said that pérhaps you know the owners! ANyways we met Nancy, who is managing it right now and who survived an electrical blackout the second day we were there, AND she is performing to day at the festival. She is a well known musician who is part of a tour working with a reknown Costa Rican musician who recorded Simbiosia, a rainforest-jungle and music cd. We will buy it and use the music for our photo slideshow of Costa Rica. ANyways...

Now we are in Alajuela. WE were on the road yesterday by5:30 am and drove the mountain road up through San Isidro. Some how I navigated us through San Jose without incident though we did end up right at the mercado central instead of skirting around the fringe as I had planned! We are staying at La Guaria Inn which is clean, beautiful with a pool and $50.00 a night and managed by a Tico family. They have been great!

Thanks again for an awesome stay at the LookOut. IF you ever want some time in Northern California, we would love to return the hospitality. Peter just walked out and said to tell you thanks for the stay in the monkey house and for the great monkey sex!!!!! Ha! You two hit it off too well!

TAke care of each other and your staff,

Gale and Peter

We rented a nearby house, but we ate dinner every night for one week in February 2009 at the Lookout Inn. We would highly recommend it! The food was delicious, and always included a lovely, fresh salad. The ambiance was very welcoming and friendly. Terry and his wife are fabulous hosts!
We had a wonderful time!

I’ve visited the Osa Peninsula on two separate occasions and I can say without a doubt that the Lookout Inn is the place to stay. I had originally booked for three days but after spending just one day there, I knew I wanted to stay for my entire time in Costa Rica. I ended up staying a total of nine days and loved every minute of it.

The staff was attentive to my every need… they always put in the extra effort and special touches to make my stay very memorable. I want to extend a special thank you to Jackson and Wagner, both top-notch guys that know their way around a kitchen and can create art with recipes and place settings equal to a five star resort; Jef, an Osa bartender who has no equal and a jack of all trades to boot… he mixes a mean drink (try a Stargarita!) and never fails to entertain with his quick witted humor; Alejandra, who is an amazing person and talented artist… her work is displayed in many places at the Lookout Inn; Last but not least, Terry and Kattia… who run the place with an uncanny attention to every detail and make the Lookout Inn feel like a home.

All but a few of the “rooms” at the Inn are like something out of a jungle story dream. If you can even call them rooms, because four of them are like some Robinson Crusoe inspired abode that will make you feel as if you’re “one with nature” while living among all the jungle’s flora and fauna. The elevated and open design of the Swing-In Spa and Monkey House literally removes the barriers that we all deal with in our traditional homes or offices so you really feel that you are in a vastly different place. The two Tiki Huts are smaller, but also open towards the Pacific and are perfect for the solo traveler or a couple. No matter which one you choose, nearly all of your senses are stimulated… the sound of the ocean waves and nightly calls of rainforest creatures, the smells of the flowers and plant life, the sight of jungle animals in their natural habitat and almost within reach at times, and the feel of a nearly constant ocean breeze that makes the humidity very negligible.

Every meal at the Lookout Inn was wonderful and special requests were always fulfilled. Fresh mahi-mahi, red snapper, fruits and salad right from the Osa were just a few of the items on the menu during my stay there. Everything was cooked perfectly and served with perfection. Gathering for each meal was something everyone seemed to look forward to as it was the perfect time to get to know the other guests and share stories. It was truly a group environment where everyone became a family of sorts.

Activities at the Lookout Inn and in the area are numerous… too many to list here, but I will mention the amazing waterfalls just within an hour’s hike, the stairway to heaven where a great view awaits, the magnificent Pacific ocean where a daily swim or beach walk is easily accessible, and of course, the famed Corcovado National Park where some of the world’s most beautiful creatures call home. The grounds of the Inn and local area are a photographer’s dream… I took over 500 photos and could’ve easily taken more.

In summary, the Lookout Inn is a special place that I recommend to anyone that wants to experience all of the best the Osa has to offer. The staff, accommodations, food, and activities are all first class. In my own personal experience, I can honestly say it felt like I was meant to be there… that I was drawn to the place for some purpose that I cannot yet determine. So, if you’re looking to “get away from it all” and lose yourself in a place where you can gain a different perspective, or if you just want to enjoy a wonderful time on the Osa, the Lookout Inn Lodge is the place to be.

To the staff and guests that I met during my stay, please feel free to contact me. My email is srdeck@yahoo.com and I would really enjoy hearing from you. Thanks again and Pura Vida!

Favorite Activity: I cannot choose a favorite, but the stand outs were hiking to the waterfalls, taking photos, relaxing on the beach and getting to know the other guests and staff members.

Best Wildlife Seen: Baird's Trogon, Green Vine Snake, Tapir, Hummingbirds and Scarlet Macaws

We can’t say enough wonderful things about this place! We spent our delayed honeymoon and 50th birthday celebration over the Christmas holidays at the Lookout Inn (5 days). It is paradise – away from it all. We thought we’d miss civilization but we didn’t have time. (They do have wireless!) Terry and Katya are great hosts and leave very little for you to want or miss!

We stayed in the Swing Inn Spa. It is completely open air, but we did not have an issue with any bug bites or uninvited animals. Our cabina was cleaned daily and very comfortable. All the accommodations are unique and include minimal electricity (enough, trust me!) You can see all the solar panels from above the Inn.

We spent our days exploring the property and area, which is gorgeous with the native plants, flowers, gardens, and many wildlife sightings of macaws, iguanas, and monkeys. The beach is just yards away from the Inn with it’s own little cabina area. We were usually the only ones on the beach. We took daily walks, did a nature hike with Katya and a night hike with local tour guide Eric. We also did the much anticipated waterfall hike above the Inn, and were rewarded with 3 beautiful, cool waterfalls.

The food – fantastic! We enjoyed organic and local food and every meal brought a tasty, new surprise. Of course, the delicious fruit was plentiful! We made great friends eating family style each meal. Each morning began with abundant coffee on the lower deck and each day ended with happy hour on the upper deck watching the beautiful sunset. Jeff was our wonderful resident bartender (and everything else from cook to host) and it was entertaining to watch Fay, the chef, cook our meal for the night.

This is truly a unique area of Costa Rica and the Lookout Inn makes it an unforgettable memory. We hated to leave and can’t wait to go back!

I had a fantastic time! I went by myself and during the rainy season when most people don't so I got a lot of attention from Terry and Katya who were awesome hosts.

I stayed 8 nights. The place is really cool. I stayed in a treehouse called the Swing Inn. It was all open but I didn't even get a mosquito bite. Terry relayed that people smell bad so no animal wants us as there is plenty better out there for them!...I hope.

What a great tale to tell when you get home, tho, and a great memory. (They also have all-enclosed rooms.) I fell asleep each night to the breaking surf or rain, of course, and woke to birds at sunrise. Coffee was waiting and lots of it. Views from my room were of the ocean and beautiful foliage. The Swing Inn had its own large bathroom area and plenty of hot water and American Standard toilet; a living room area with a hammock; and of course the rope bed. Either Katya or her kids were always willing to go on hikes with me.

The whole area is like Gilligan's Island, describing it doesn't do it justice. No one's on the beach for miles. I went horseback riding, hiked to the waterfalls, lagoon (which opened to the ocean due to all of the rain - something to see!), Corcovado, and walked baby turtles to the ocean. I only had one really rainy day which is when I got a facial and pedicure from Katya that were great.

Meals were delicious (we had baby shrimp the day the lagoon opened to the ocean) and dinners were served upstairs by candlelight. Of course, animals everywhere.

I'll be back with my niece and nephew next year and wouldn't hesitate to go back during the rainy season either.

We spent 6 days in Feb. at the Lookout Inn. We had planned our whole vacation from information off the Inn’s website, from choosing rooms to arranging flight times. Once booked, the Inn arranged for our taxi from Puerto Jimenez to the Inn, and back when we departed. You can fly from Puerto Jimenez to Carate (close to the Inn) but we would recommend the hour and half taxi just to see more of the area.
This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we weren’t sure what to expect, the website had a lot of information, but you’re just never sure the place will live up to its description. It did.
We stayed in the Monkey House, up the side of the hill with magnificent views of the jungle and ocean. It will be our first choice on our return visit. Meals were included in the price, and oh what meals! Fresh fruits, juices, vegetables, fish, breads and desserts. The gracious owners, Terry & Katya were available every day for visiting, answering questions or arranging side trips.
We spent most of our days on the beach, ocean kayaking, hiking in the jungle, lazing in the pool and visiting with the other guests. With only nine rooms the group was small and we spent as much or as little time with other people as we wished. No matter what we were doing we saw the most beautiful plants and flowers, exotic birds and animals: from monkeys to macaws, to humpback whales and more.
It was a wonderful adventure from beginning to end, and we hated to leave. We will return.
